Someone who isn't me (SWIM) found a Big Brown Bat Pup, hairless and they already are up to date with rabies vaccines. SWIM, knows the local wildlife agency will just no-life the bat pup. There is no way to put the pup, back where it's "nest?" was. It was a busy bridge of a interstate. Would it be possible (not talking ethics) if SWIM put the baby pup into a brooder, with high humidity and fed the pup goats milk... could SWIM, later re-release the pup back into the wild?

Someone I know raised a bat pup on kitten milk, feeding it every few hours and keeping a warm water bottle wrapped in a towel with it. Little bat survived to be able to eat pre-caught bugs and then flew off. Not sure if it was able to adapt to the wild but it was given a chance.

Yeah, I don’t even think kitten milk is a great idea but it’s far better than goat milk. Big brown bats are insectivorous.

Can I ask how you’re certain the local agency will euthanize the pup? Because if I can give you a nickel’s worth of free advice, it’s that infant wildlife are better off euthanized than suffering and potentially dying due to improper amateur care.

Not to mention what you’re suggesting is illegal in the states, and likely Canada as well, especially considering that bats can be rabies vectors and dangerous in untrained hands. Sure, you guys may be vaccinated but it’s never a good idea to habituate wildlife and out others at potential risk.

Yeah you sound like PETA, we just ended up eating it. Ofc I know the wildlife agency would put it down, that is all they do. You must be a city person.

No need for the hostility. Where I live (which isn’t a city) there are plenty of wildlife rehabilitators that are trained professionals which would raise this bat properly and happily. There are literally dozens of organizations across the states, dedicated solely to rehabilitating and protecting bats. You are just justifying not handing the bat over to professionals because of what is effectively hearsay against one organization, you have other options than raising it yourself.

If you’re asking for advice online, that means you don’t know what you’re doing taking care of baby wildlife. Taking care of baby wildlife when you don’t know what you’re doing is illegal for a reason, drop the holier than thou act if you can’t put your actions behind your words.
