OMG, LOVE IT!!!
There's flapping(It's a status thing), then there's clapping(Which is a loud reminder of status.)Does anyone know the proper term for when a male chicken stands up tall and waves its wings in the air? I've just been calling it "Big Chicken", as in "Look at you, you big chicken!"![]()
Holy cow, you are totally psychic. I have two cockerels and one pullet - which I do understand violates the natural order of things - and I got the impression today that my pullet thinks she's a cockerel like her brothers. She growls, does "Big Chicken", and takes absolutely no crap from the boys. In the meantime, they're so busy challenging each other (non-violently so far) that Blondie is only minimally harassed (and I intervene as needed). There's flapping(It's a status thing), then there's clapping(Which is a loud reminder of status.)
Hens will flap as well. A dominant hen may clap, crow, & or dance to make sure others know her place. Some see these, & think automatically their hen, or pullet is Rooster, or cockerel, but that's only to the inexperienced eyes.
She doesn't think she's a cockerel, she's trying to tell them she's boss which is good thing. But I do recommend removing(Culling), or separating one of the Cockerels as they can become quite rowdy around one pullet, or hen.Holy cow, you are totally psychic. I know that's what needs to be done . . . it's just so hard after you become attached. She doesn't think she's a cockerel, she's trying to tell them she's boss which is good thing. I've had to remove birds I didn't want to remove before, it's a tough decision, but sometimes sacrifices need to be made. The ones I had to remove became food for us.I know that's what needs to be done . . . it's just so hard after you become attached.![]()
