BIg Coops? Who has a really big coop?

Jenlynn,

Love your coop but have a concern! Is there fencing at the bottom to keep your chickens from going underneath the coop? Chickens being chickens they will probably try to get under there and lay eggs as it's dark and secluded. Not to mention the home it could be for vermin. Just wondering out loud! Have fun with your girls!

After checking out the pics on the large coop pages, and some of the fabulous coops on individual BYC pages- we have an idea now of what we want. Went out and did some measuring last night- I will be able to put it behind our existing barn. We are going to go with 10X30 with a 10X30 run behind it. At first I was going to go 8X20, but I know that I will wish that I had made it bigger, lol. so I am going to plan for 10X30, and that will give me room to have divided runs and coops. I also want to move my water line and install a hot water heater so I can have a sink and a hot wash for my show horse. And we can tie this building into the electric on the existing barn. My son is actually excited about having a large chicken house like this... we did really well selling alying hens this year, and would like to do it again next year...

Yes there is wire at the bottom. We used the old fence for that and its old and rusty so it doesnt really show up in the pics. We kept the coop up on blocks that way animals would not be as apt to nest under it. JEN

I have an 8x16 that has 4 pens and a 10x12 that is not divided. I don't have enough space with those two buildings.

Would love a a huge barn with lots of space for everything under one roof.

Mine is 15x40, with various pens and aisle space and storage space. Currently has, uh: pen with four sussex and a campine, 'hen pen' of 3 red stars and 3 EEs, an EE-cross cockerel alone til he's a little bigger and can go into hen pen, pen of 8 turkey poults, a breeding pair of heritage bronze turkeys, a broody hen in a dog crate, a big pen with 16 sussex and chantecler chicks, and a whole lot of food and junk-storage

Mine is a 25x25 brick building. I just use it for a laying flock at the moment. I need to put cages on for breeding though. Someday the old barn will be mostly birds.

We have a big barn and we use some stalls for coops. Built one coop out of old barn wood that someone wanted taken down. Working on run down the side right now.

Have a dog house and a dog run up closser to the house for new chickes and such.
also have a park out of chain link fince and deer netting with swing chairs for grass fun. For the big chickens I use bottle rockets if I see a hawk to keep them away. We also have electric fence around run.We have a good dog and cats at the barn at night. Cats do not want anything to do with the chickens. Not that they get a chance. Most stuff we used was things other people didn't want. The big barn came with the small house. This has taken us a little over a year to do.

Our coop, currently under construction, is 12X16. We will divide it into two "houses" - one for the hens and the other for the roos.
