Our chicks who are 8 days old have big crops. Is it normal? If not, what could I do to reduce the size?

I only see that in mine when they are eating something they shouldn't be. It can be shavings or shavings dust, sometimes bugs with hard carapaces like beetles if it's one of those times of year when there's an explosion in the population and they are attracted to heat lamp / outdoor lighting.
It can also easily happen if they are getting treats.
In any of those cases, what they need is Chick grit in the small grade available at the store. If it's the bedding, changing it out for something less fine or less attractive can help too. All of mine have cleared up in a couple of days after supplying grit and addressing the source of the problem.
