I set 10 eggs in my incubator on 2 August and on 14th day my cat almost jumped over the incubator. It didn't fell but one of the eggs got a big dent on its side because of the impact. I taped it up with some kind of seal tight tape and didn't really expect the chick to survive till the hatch day. But miraculously it survived!!!! Its moving and has almost internally piped the egg. But i would need to remove the tape for it to hatch and the tape is stuck to the egg. It won't come off easily and if i force it will definitely take that piece of shell with it.

What should i do guys???!! I am really worried 😖😥

I would use an exacto knife, scalpel or boxcutter with a new blade and try to cut and peel it away a little at a time. You may not have to get it all off but you want to get as much off as possible without making the cracks worse. If it does crack some more, rather than tape, I would highly recommend liquid skin bandage. It has worked very well for me including one egg that had cracks over about 60% of the egg.
So even if some shell comes off, and there is still membrane you can seal it with the liquid bandage.

If i try to remove the tape the cracks that are already there get worse. The tape is even taking some pieces of shell off the egg with it . I will try the bandage.I hope the chick dosen't try to pipe in the area with tape. I am scared that he will be unable to get out and will suffocate inside the egg.

I would wait until it's internally pipped. Then wait 12hr. Then make a tiny safety hole according to the assisted hatching guide. Wait again. Once 1-2 other chicks in the hatch have fully hatched, check if it's ready to assist. Once it's ready to be assisted, carefully break it out.
You don't want to cause a bleed by pulling the tape before it's ready.

Thank you so much for the article i read it carefully. Its been only 3-4 hrs since the chick pipped internally so i think i should wait to see if it pipes externally. Though i am kinda scared that its trying to pipe in the area with the tape. If it dosen't i will make a safety hole within the next few hrs.
Thanks a lot for your help😊

could you try loosening the glue on the tape with a cotton bud dipped in a bit of olive oil, and just keep pushing it while peeling a little?

Thanks! I would definitely try it if yhe chick dosen't pipe externally in the next few hours

Let's hope.
Have some liquid skin on hand if it happens again. I keep a bottle right next to my incubators so I can repair dents and cracks immediately and the chicks don't have any problem breaking through.

Thanks for your help! 😊
I will definitely go and buy some liquid skin right now just in case the cracks widen.

Its been about 6 hrs since it piped internally and its chirping a lot. Should i start helping it come out or wait? I made a safety hole for it.
