Ginger did not lay an egg one day and the next laid a double egg. It has a ridge line and it is a slightly different shade on each side of the ridge. I am glad she was able to pass it. Anyone know what would cause this? I posted a picture on my page.

I don't know but if my golden comet hens miss 1 day they lay a very large egg the next day. And I mean huge. Usually you can't hardly close the egg carton.

It bulges out the egg carton. Do yours have double yokes? They miss a day occasionally. They lay 6 to 7 each a week but have never had such a large egg after missing a day. Have you ever had to help one get out?

I have only gotten 1 double yolker and it was huge also. I only had to help one egg out and it was a pullet egg not large at all. Don't know what her problem was. I will try to get some pics of the next huge ones. Gave the last one to my neighbor for taking care of critters last weekend.

Golden Comets are known for x-large brown eggs.

Hey DesertDawg I bet you forgot about this already.
Finally Lucy laid one of her huge eggs. The picture does not really do it justice. The other egg is from a BR. I bet you thought I was pulling your leg huh? Anyway here is a couple of pics. Lucy is a golden comet.

Mine have skipped a few times, always on Sunday, but she has not layed another big egg since that one. But funny thing is, her daily eggs have been bigger ever since that double one.

I used to keep better track of who missed but always know the biggest ones are Lucy's. Now I have 6 laying and don't pay as much attention to who's is who's. I get 4 eggs almost every day and there are only 3 of us. I give the rest away to neighbor who feeds for me and family and friends.

Funny its always on Sunday. She must be taking the day off.
