Big Green Hen House: Modification Recommendations?

I have this coop. Just finished putting it all together last week for my 6 bantams. We sealed everything inside and out, will upgrade hardware and do some work on the screen for the run, it needs to be beefed up a bit. The run is a bit top heavy and my DH used 2x4's at each corner and along the top. Also placed it on a 2x6 base which will be anchored in the ground with 4' rebar stakes. Haven't done any mods inside yet, does need more ventilation which will be done this weekend. May turn the roosts sideways and raise them just a bit. I think it's a decent coop, the house is big enough for my 6 babies, but the run is still too small, although fairly roomy. Mine is attached to a shared larger run, and the chickens will be able to free range when they get older. I say if the price is right, get it!

It's just not practical to have the nest box in a coop that is only 30" high.

Where did you get the measurement that the coop is only 30" high? From the bottom of the coop floor to the peak of the roof is certainly much more than 30". I went to TSC today, and while they didn't have the exact same coop, there was plenty of room to raise the roost bars and not have chickens bump their heads getting on the roost.

It was a SWAG, now you have to figure out where to put the vents with the chickens close to the roof...

Finnie,

The entire coop floor is a tray that slides out for cleaning. Once out, cleaning everything else doesn’t appear too bad.

$300 for this coop right now if you buy from TSC online and pick up in the store.

I just came back from buying it!
(Have to go back in the morning to pick it up, though, because that's going to take some effort, and they were closing. I'll need to unbox it and place the pieces into my minivan individually.)

Oh, yeah, I forgot about the slide out bottom. But I would prefer to fill that tray with PDZ and just scoop the poops out. So I will want to be able to reach inside with the tray in place. I'm pretty confident I can adapt it to my liking. I love your treated 4x4 base. I'm going to copy that!

Will you start a new thread about your assembly and modifications?
If so, please post a link here?

Are you the same Finnie that built the big old coop based on a Pinterest pic?
I may just be disremembering or terribly confused :D

Hi Aart, yes, that's me. :D
Sure, I will try to take pictures and make a thread about the new coop, and link it here.

I like the roosts on that prefab mod that you posted a link to. I'm thinking I'm going to modify mine similarly. At first I was just going to raise these perches, but then I decided I might as well make 2x4 ones while I'm at it.

Maybe I will do an update on my Pinterest shed too, if I get time. It's not finished, but it's been pressed into service regardless. ;)
