This little lady has been sitting in the nesting box for a few days, i picked her up this morning and put her out so that i could observe if she is eating. She ate and drank and then went back in the box so i figured well maybe she's just gone broody since i still have the wooden eggs in there, but i noticed that she making this different sound (i took a video but couldn't figure out how to attach it). And so i started to just feel on her and noticed this soft, gushy, ball. I think it's her crop but none of the other hens feel like hers. Now, I'm concerned! I don't know if she's been laying lately. What are your thoughts and what should i do?

Update: i checked her this morning, and it's still soft and squishy, i don't know how close you have to get in order to smell something but i opened her beak a little bit yesterday and i did not smell anything, could this be something other than sour crop?

That is the crop. When a chicken eats, the food goes into the crop first then down to the stomach. If the others don't have a crop full before bed, then that's a concern.

If its very hot they will be drinking aton of water which will make the crop enlarge.

Hmm if it's the pink skin under your hand that seems a bit low to be her crop you might look into water belly I'm sure there a thread somewhere, I hope it isn't that it can be a pain from my research

Looks normal to me ☺️ now if it doesn't empty by tomorrow morning I would treat for sour crop

No that's about right for the crop. Its the way the picture is taken ☺️ waterbelly is by the vent low down under the chicken.

I agree and your right pic angle fooled me lol. I once had a young rooster that had a super huge water filled squishy crop and it did subside by the next morning and if she was broody and got a good drink makes even more sense
