My little Black Star has a squishy crop and vent prolapse at the same time. She has been absolutely fine for the past couple of days and now I’m afraid she’s dying!

She has been puffed up today, but I didn’t think much of it because it’s cold. She tried to go into a nesting box instead of roosting this evening. I picked her up, and that’s when I noticed her crop. Fluid is coming out, but her breath doesn’t smell sour.

I found the prolapse when I was giving her a full check over. I cleaned her up and gently pushed it back in. (I’ve had to do it before over the years… I didn’t do anything different.) I trimmed off the feathers that were REALLY poopy. There is no sign of any vent gleet.

I gave her Meloxicam for pain and swelling. The dosage was correct.

I have not given her anything for the crop issues yet.

She was still drinking water before the bath, and she took the medicine on her own in some coconut oil.

She’s now lethargic and laying down. I think she can stand, but she isn’t. Fluid comes out of her beak if I lift her.

I have no idea what is going wrong and I’m devastated. She was totally normal yesterday, and seemed to be okay for the majority of today.

Can I do anything? I love this little bird.
