went on holidays for 2 weeks and came back to 1 hen with impacted crop. i’ve been doing coconut oil 2 times a day, massaging and alternating in stool softeners instead some days. also treating with monistat when it didn’t clear after 4 days. it’s no longer hard packed but feels like a bag of pebbles and is boggy/fluidy in the morning. i’ve been putting her in cage every afternoon with just acv water. she’s pooping (cecal poops too) eating, drinking and hyper as ever. is there anything else i can do to help her empty that grit or is she on her own to eventually move it out of her crop ? also, today is day 7 of monistat do i keep going or quit ? thanks !

Seven days of Monistat is sufficient. But it can take another week for the grit and gravel to be emptied. You may give a probiotic to help speed this up.
ok awesome, good to know ! i was feeling like i failed since it hasn’t emptied yet, so your reply is very encouraging ! i have been giving her yogurt every other day, i will stop monistat after today but continue with coconut oil. thanks for your reply, not only helpful but encouraging for me not to give up 🙏

Thank you for posting this, it’s nearly exactly what’s going on with my hen. I read ALLLLLL the sour crop articles and threads (thank you @azygous) and will be doing the same with my little birdie.

yes azygous’s thread on sour crop is super helpful

i decided to not lock mine up this afternoon and let her have a full day to chicken. thought i’d experiment if having a little more food in her belly would help ‘pick up’ the grit and move it along. she went to bed SOOOO full it’s not funny. back to jail i think tomorrow since she cant seem to stop stuffing her face 🙄

good luck with yours !
