Big yellow jacket nest in wall of chicken coop

The yellow jacket nest is just above the window in the wall, any ideas on how to kill them. We can only hook the coop up at night . And we can't go near the front of it or they will try and sting us.

wow that’s a big nest!! Well the only way to kill them is to go in a night. However I know i find wasp all the time around my coop because they use there poop to build nest out of. I had 2 big ones in my shed that was built in as little as 2 weeks. there was about 40 wasps on one and about 30 on the others. When u destroy the nest i suggest getting a small paper bag and crumble it up and put it on all corners of the coop this acts like a wasp nest and wasps are territoal insects. And you can get 2 liter bottles and fill with Beer and some Real jam from real fruit. i made my first one and it killed 20 or more. I have noticed wasps are not as populated as before when i did these.

HolyCrap! Is there somewhere you can put the chicken for a couple or few days so you can spray that thing? The spray I just used in a shed seemed to dissipate after a few days. I sprayed at like 5 am, coolest time of day.

Unfortunately I can't move them out of this coop. I have 40 chickens in this coop that I just wormed on friday with their second dose, so I need to wait 14 days until August 9th. I do have another coop but my older(2 year old) hens are in that and those birds already were wormed last month and the eggs are ok to eat now. I sprayed them with Sevin concentrate last night but it only worked a little, I can't tell where the opening to the hive is.

Use a bug bomb when they go to bed at night. When all the bees are in the nest get one of those aerosol cans with the locking valve called a bug bomb and activate it in the nest opening and just leave it alone until the next day. All the bees in the nest will be dead by in the morning and since you did it at night when they were asleep there is little chance that you will get stung.

This works great on yellow jackets in the ground as well, just find their hole and activate the bomb in the hole after they have all retired for the night.

The nest in your picture looks much more like a hornet nest than it does a yellow jacket nest. Where I'm from yellow jackets are always in the ground and hornets build the paper nest under the eaves of the house and barn like what you have in your coop.

I use Raid Concentrated Deep Reach Foggers which come in a 1.5 oz orange can and packaged in a 6 pack.

That looks like a hornet nest to me. Yellow Jackets nest in the ground in little holes in smaller colonies. Hornets build nests like the one you have there. They are different animals. Hornets will go dormant in the freezing winter and you can move the nest safely.

yellow jackets dont just nest in the ground they'll make nests out of mud and nest in hollow things. I found a huge yellow jackets nest in our empty boat compartment as long as a full grown house cat.

They weren't hornets, they look just like ground bees( yellow jacket) and they are really territorial and fast. I sprayed them a couple of night ago with Telco Rainbow wasp and hornet spray. It worked, I climbed up there at night, it was cold out andsprayed into the crack where they went in and out. I saw none the next day.

No affect on the chickens at all. This spray has a very small odor level, it kinda smells a little like motor oil. Telco-Rainbow wasp and hornet spray is used by the utility companies and in my opinion is the best bee/wasp spray you can get, but it is expensive.
