My coop is 16 foot long and 10 foot wide . It is an old lean to garage to an old trailer I have on my property . There is a health food store near me that exclusively sell my eggs. I have 14 laying hens now and 14 more pullets not laying yet. They are about 9-10 weeks old. Right now I have 4 nest boxes but when all of my chickens are old enough how many should I have. I use the old milk crates for nest and seem to work. Does anyone suggest another type of nest box? I will take pictures soon to show you my coop .

I'd probably set up 3 or 4 more. There is nothing wrong with using milk crates, or most any free container you might have that's around that size.

I totally agree. You might be able to get by with just a couple more and they may still all try to use just a few, but having a couple extra doesn’t hurt anything and may help. I like the flexibility it gives you plus space should not be a problem in that coop. That’s a nice size.

In addition to the milk crates you can use cat litter boxes, the big buckets the cat litter comes in, cardboard boxes, maybe get free 4 to 5 gallon buckets from a deli or bakery. Maybe that health food store would have something free you could use? There was a recent thread on this forum about someone modifying an old dresser for nests. The only thing limiting you on what to use is your imagination.

Good luck with it. Sounds like you are doing great.
