what was your biggest- meat bird and was it still good to eat, and what was the weight ?
I've read about some people using large birds instead of turkeys for thanksgiving, is this true?

Yes, it is. I used to raise about 15 cornish x a year for Thanksgiving. I would get the chickens around 10-14 lbs.

Look for a good roaster strain, if your not familiar with one ask the hatcheries. I think McMurray has one.

I just tried my first 6 meat chickens. They were cornish x. I ended up with 4 roos and 2 hens. The roos were about 12 pounds each (7-1/2 pounds dressed) and the hens were 5 pounds dressed, processed at 10-11 weeks. I was very happy with them - they tasted like chicken! We will be getting some more when this infernal cold weather ends.

I got a Purdue chick that was left behind on a truck. Some how it was overlooked and the truck was in for repair at a friends shop. He called me and I got it. I raised it with all my other birds. I kept him for aprox 14 months, not weeks, months. He weighed 24 pounds and was huge. I had to kill him because he got too mean. He could not jump up and spur me like a normal rooster he just head butted my feet. I cleaned him and his insides were of a normal birds size. heart, gizzard and all. the meat was huge and was tender. He tasted great.

would these larger birds do good on a big green egg, would they still be tender and juicy?
I cant wait to grow some big ones to grill on the green egg !!!!!
