biggest size for a mobile coop? Anyone have a mobile full sized coop?

Yeah... I kinda want to build bigger than smaller because I'm sure Id fill it up eventually! ha! My goal is somethigng 10 by 16.

yes that sounds like a good size for sure. Of course it depends on the total amount of birds but why not give them a little more space than required. Happy chickens lay eggs

exactly my thinking. I came from a super cold climate where they were literally cooped up so much, so I'm used to building bigger, but I'd like to some day really expand my flock and need to plan ahead. Right now I'm starting over with 15 chicks.

Someone on here did build a very large coop on a trailer and it was really nice. I'll see if I can find it in the coop section. He detailed how he built it, with pics too.

Here's my mobile coop & run. The coop is a little over 4'X8' (the area behind the drivers seat) and the run is 6'X12'. I have it listed on the BYC coop page if you want more shots of the inside and how it was made. It's worked pretty darn well, and carried all 35 of my juvenile freedom rangers to safety when we had to evacuate our property due to the Waldo Canyon fire (run was disconnected and left behind). https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/mini-van-mobile-coop

View inside taken in Deckers, Colorado...halfway from home to my sister-in-law's where we rode out the evacuation order.

That is very cool! And I'm glad you made it out with them during the evacuation!!!

The mini-van could almost be considered free...actually probably pays for itself. It's 17 years old and fully paid for probably 14 years ago. We actually keep it registered and insured because having it listed on our insurance policy actually SAVES us money on our car insurance, because we have 3 young drivers (21, 18 and 16) and the insurance company is under the impression that our kids drive it. (That was the case until about 2 years ago when my eldest son added the final insult to the poor thing sideswiping something on the driveway and taking out the rear window).

I don't know what it would cost to purchase something similar...maybe an old hatch-back station wagon or perhaps use a pickup truck with a topper while you are growing out a bunch of meat birds and then claim your pickup back when they are safely in the freezer.

I've been thinking about a pickup bed or pickup. Wondering if I could pick up one that was ready for the Junker. I think I'm going to have to just peruse craigslists, front yards, yard sales and see what I find.

(I have a secret fantasy of finding a junky broken old schoolbus to use... Just cause i think it would look funny and cute! :))
