Over 20 years ago I had a pair of RIR's in a small coop they never left. There weren't any forums, chat groups, or books about urban chickens. I got all my info from the local grange, and hoped for the best.

My girls did great, with almost a dozen eggs a week from 2 hens. Then came a horrible snow storm. It was over 4" of snow and stayed under freezing for 5 days. In Washington state, near Seattle, that's almost blizzard like. I put a light out for my girls to keep them from freezing. No one told me it could disrupt egg laying and lost a chicken as she was egg-bound from not laying due to no darkness for 3 days.

This time around I have this wonderful site, my BFF who has 3 girls and has been my inspiration to get back into being a "biker chick" again.

You can see by my pic that I am truly a biker chick, not just in name. I'm sitting on my 1971 Triumph Daytona 500cc twin.

I look forward to learning from all of you as I grow my flock of "biker chicks" and eat healthy eggs again.
