I've just started to conceive the the idea of modifying my 8' x 12' into a partial coop. My plan is to partition the back 4' for a coop and keeping the front part for storage. Hopefully I can get this done before winter. I believe 4 chickens will be adequate. Further modification (additional venting and maybe a skylight) may need to occur before the heat of summer begins again next year. All advice is welcomed.

It's just a name. I eat all of the egg.

I am not sure where you are homesteaded but here in Florida I need a big run with shade. 4 birds is a nice number but adequate ventilation they will appreciate.
Without jabber jawing ya too much I'll stand by with a warm welcome to the site!

Hi Farmer Connie,
I'm located in southern Ontario Canada. The summer here is nowhere near as hot as you experience. The run area would be shady in any case. The shed though would need better air flow to keep the heat from building up inside during the summer. Thanks for your comment.
