I am candling again tonight to outline the air cells for ideal setting in the cartons for lockdown in two days. Most air cells ended up somewhat angled, probably had them angled a bit during their initial rest.

I am down to 19. Three were removed as bloodrings at the day 10 candling and I am concerned that two may have quit since but between my inexperience with candling and how dark the shells are it is hard to be sure. Everyone is going into lockdown (unless they throw off red flares, so to speak). I actually have a color coded chart as to who is strongest looking and who is weakest and will arrange the eggs in the cartons according to that to help me track a bit better. I think I am getting a little OCD...

Congrats! You will be happy with these birds...strong and beautiful...My 4 week olds are doing fabulous...lots of colors too!

If anyone gets chicks that are yellow with black spots, they feather out a beautiful dark blue/gray with silver laceing. Wow, are they pretty. I'll try to get photos this weekend.

I sold all mine but the 4 my sister and I are splitting...I need to update with pics too...at 4 weeks they are still looking like pullets too (-; I retained the ones from nicest colored eggs with fast feathering (especially tails and backs) and long low angle body types...it seems to work thus far for me. I have what looks to be a pure black ameraucana from blue egg, a dark blue olive egger with leg feathering, a lavender olive egger with leg feathering and a pure wheaten ameraucana (from another breeder). they've been outside in the larger brooder with a heat lamp for almost a week...doing great! there's a low perch in there and they look so adorable on it (-;

I have three like that! Need to post pictures... I also have a dark grey baby and a yellow with soft chipmunk markings.

Does anyone have new pictures from this weekend? My Azriel eggs aren't due to come till next week and I am getting the hatching fever! Love to see what I might end up with.
