I'm brand new to this quail thing. I've purchased a metal bin feeder to mount outside the cage. http://www.cutlersupply.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12_68&products_id=711 I'm lead to believe my cortunix will waste a ton of food unless I reduce the size of the opening. I'm planning to cover the slot with sheet metal into which I've cut smaller openings.

My question: Should I just cut out a few quarter size circles, or would a long narrow slot about 1/2 in wide work better. What got me to thinking about this was reading about the PVC quail feeder with the "wavy" openings.

What are they reach through? Outside of the cage and through a 1" opening keeps mine from wasting too much. A bit does hit the ground but nothing like if it was inside with them.

Then you will have to cover it and you may end up with birds getting caught or cut. Mine reach through the wire to eat. This keeps them from digging in their feed.

What size wire do you use?
