I had 7 Birchen old english bantam chicks hatch and after a few weeks a pullet from that hatch looks like a brown red. I was told that birchen can produce brown red. Looking for any input and if its so would she breed true with a brown red roo?

The difference in Birchen and brown red is that birchen is silver based and brown red is gold based.
Silver and gold is sex linked so a female only gets one gene for it. She gets her gene from her father and passes it to her son. Females are an either/or so they are either silver or gold.
If she is gold based she will breed true with a brown red male.

With males they're an either/or or both.
They can be silver, gold or carry one of each gene. Silver is dominate so a brown red male is pure for gold. A birchen male can be pure for silver or appear Birchen but carry one gene for gold.
If you're producing a brown red then your male carries gold. He has a 50% chance of passing gold to every one of his offspring.

thanks for the help. i ended up with 1 of 7 being this color. i have about 15 real young chicks so i will see what i get. thats good news because my brown red arent producing so i got 1 at least lol

Any that are clearly brown reds will be pullets.
You may also be producing silver/gold male chicks but they will appear birchen.
Usually the silver/gold males have a yellowish color where the brown reds have their color but it usually doesn't show up till they're closer to maturity.
Do you have a pic of the rooster that produced that chick?
