Bird bath heaters

Does the bottom of the bird bath heater also generate heat or just the top?

DOes anyone use these?? ANyone know? Are they safe to put in a bucket so that the base is in touch with the bottom of a plastic bucket?

Most birdbath heaters are safe for plastic buckets, it should say on the box.

Careful, though. I've read online of some of these cheap ones malfunctioning and delivering a shock.

If you are wanting to water out of an open bucket, get a heated dog water dish. I got one at tractor supply. They work fine.
