Has anyone used bird biotic for their chickens? I've got a couple layers with signs of a respiratory infection and my TSC doesn't carry tylan 50, so I have bird biotic which is doxycycline I'm just not sure if it's safe to eat the eggs if I give it to them. I know there's usually a withdrawal period with antibiotics, I was just wanting the opinion of someone who has used it before.

Not certain how doxycycline works in chickens, but I have been on 2 thirty day regimens of treatment for Lyme disease. I found it to be effective against Lyme without the side effects of other antibiotics I have taken. Go to Google and search 'doxycycline withdrawal period'. Hopefully somone with needed information will show up here.

Doxycycline is not approved for poultry in the US at this time. It is in the tetracycline family which has previously been used with a withdrawal of 3 weeks, but you could check with a vet. I cannot post a PDF file here for some reason, but FARAD has several links about antibiotics if you Google "egg withdrawal of doxycycline." One link stated that there may be 14 eggs in development at any time, so keep that in mind. Here is some reading for you to make up your mind:
