bird netting over run

Quote:
I am so glad I ran across this thread because I have been telling hubby this is what I wanted to do in our new runs. He told me I was crazy that it would never work. Not that I love to prove him wrong, lol but sometimes it is nice

Thank you for the info!

The only problem I have had was when we had a lot of snow. It weighed it down and I had to zip tie it back up, but other than that, it has small holes so nothing can get in, nothing can get out! For 12 a roll, I can afford to replace it if needed!

I'm planning on using the same stuff from Home Depot. They called it garden netting and it is green but thought that would provide a little sun shade since my dog kennel run is going to be south facing.

I'm going to zip tie a few pvc pipes across the top so I don't get any sagging since the kennel is 6 ' high and I'm 5'10" with shoes on.

I'll be posting completed pics when I get the converted horse stall done and the girls moved in this week. Then I'll start on the kennel run.

Nice information. We are in the middle of putting up our netting. We used 4x4 post with brace wire (fencing wire).
The netting I got on EBAY. Its nylon multi-filament.

Its been to windy to put it up. But we are ready.

We do, because we have hawks where we live (Huffman, Texas).

We just used the same poultry fencing we used for the sides and wired them together. We also put a tarp over part of their yard because we do not have trees in our yard, so they "needed" some shade throughout the day.

. Anyway, we are new to this as well, so we're "working" things out, but I always come to this site to find out questions i may have

I don't have photos yet, but I bought rolls of plastic poultry netting from Lowes to put up over a huge area of chain link fencing to keep out hawks. It was so droopy we had to go back to the drawing board because if stretched too tight, it would break! My husband got the bright idea to run very heavy fishing line from one side of the the yard to the other. He simply tied it tightly to the top barbed wire strand above the chain link fencing. It withstood tight stretching. We have laid the plastic poultry netting across the top of the fishing line over a partial section of the yard, but actually, the fishing line was run close enough together that a hawk could not get through it. It is also much cheaper than the plastic poultry netting. We also used zip ties to connect the poultry netting sections together. Since I didn't have enough of the poultry netting to completely cover the fenced area, I am thankful for the idea my husband had because I won't have to spend any more money to keep out those pesky hawks!

We put our netting up today. We really like it. Its very hard to see and thats what we wanted. It looks great.

Hawks keep out.

Is the netting strong enough to keep raccoons and possum out or do you need to have an electric fence wire run around the edge?
