Bird of prey, how can i protect

Sitting upstairs when i hear my chickens screaming, i run downstairs and go outside and see a black w/ spots sort of eagle? maybe fighting with a pigeon, the head of the pigeon comes off and the dead bird drops to the ground. The chickens are absolutely petrified hiding under a bush. The bird is sitting on a branch in the neighbors backyard, im scared that if i leave it will try to get my chickens, how can i protect them?

!ummm...you could try hanging old cd's around your yard...?i've heard that works

Keep your chickens confined/protected in a covered run...it's the only surefire way.

Shade cloth or fencing over the run. I am working out how to do that (there are lots of trees in our run) .

The CDs flash in the sunlight and can scare birds off, so you should make long strings of them and hang them up wherever they will catch the sun.

Chickens are quite clever at hiding though, as long as there are thick bushes for them to hide in. Have a rooster if you are allowed one. Good luck!
