Hello, I found a chicken on the side of the road. I noticed her a few weeks back and had been feeding her as she looked a little thin. I brought her home but I’ve never cared for a bird before. Do her combs look pale? She is eating and drinking water fine. Her droppings seem like normal chicken poop to me, not watery. She is exploring and pecking and pruning herself but will
Often stand on one leg.

What are you feeding her?
Does she have any wounds?
Any other signs of illness? Sneezing, runny nose, funny breathing, etc.
She has a scab one of her toes and is missing her tail feathers. But other than that no other symptoms. She’s not sneezing she pecks and scratches like normal. Does spend a good amount of time napping. We’re thinking she might have been in an accident or had escaped a hawk.

The pale comb happens during molting and no laying. Has she laid an egg?
A balanced diet will help her: chicken feed.

One thought for down the road. Chickens don’t do well with being the only chicken. She will need a buddy or two.

She has no laid any eggs that I’ve seen and yes I got her chicken feed from the feed store. Thank you for the information.

The napping could be from all the trauma. Keep an eye on her.
I am not an expert on this breed to know if it is a hen or rooster or even how old it is.
I am so glad you were able to take it in.
If it has pointed feathers on neck and pointed feathers on the lower back “saddle feathers” it’s a rooster.
