It's just grain
It's NOT good if that is all you're feeding them, but it's OK if fed along with a good chicken feed

good for a treat but they still need a balanced diet

Bird seed is what I offer my very small bantams as "scratch" because regular scratch is too big for them.

Sorry but isn't chicken feed also just grain?

Most feeds have other nutrients and minerals added to give them a balanced diet.
Grain alone is not very high in protien.

Most "bird seed" is only about 9%, while layer feed is around 15%

One good use for "bird seed" is it can be planted and give them something fresh to eat.
Just avoid the mixes that have a lot of rice or cracked corn.
Millet and wheat are ususally the main ingredients and they are easy to grow

You can get birdseed mixes tht are up to 12% or more protein. Right now I am giving my 7 week old chicks a blend of millet, niger, shelled sunflower & safflower with a 12% protein level & they love it. It is Scott's finch blend and I get it at TSC. You just have to read the ingredients & protein level on the bag.
