I have a light Brahma rooster that had his outer toe on his right foot amputated earlier in the year due to infection in the bone. Since then it has been a long journey of many scrapes and cuts. He needs protection on this foot. But I can’t seem to find anything that fits. I have bought him two different size birdie booties.

This one is too small

The right foot of the pink one I even cut off the outer toe to match him. But his toes don’t go all the way down the bootie. I can’t seem to find an in between size on the crazy k farm website, where I ordered these, so is there another solution? Besides wrapping his foot everyday.

Heres some pictures of his foot so you can get a better idea.

The first picture is still him. Just him when he was younger.

Wow. I never heard of a chicken with 3 toes. But he looks happy!

Have you tried a duck bootie, maybe? It is just a wide open bootie, and you might be able to sew a seam through it to make it smaller.

You might make one like some folks do for chicks with curled feet. I've read about someone who uses pool noodle foam pressed flat and bound to the bottom of the foot using vet wrap. I wish I could remember who it was that used that for bumblefoot...

He is happy actually. He can still mount his ladies and as long as I keep an eye on his foot we get him healed up quickly. I just wish he would stop hurting himself.

The duck bootie sounds like it might work. I can’t really imagine the pool noodle one… only because the pool noodles Im envisioning are really big.

For now we are trying the pool noodle route. The duck booties are out of stock so we have to wait awhile. In the meantime I made this out of pipe insulation. It feels like the same foam as the pool noodle foam.

We have run into a new problem however. He cannot mount the hens with this on. It’s too bulky. I may have to modify the chicken bootie to fit him for now.
