Birds and the Bees or Rooster and Hen

Can someone please tell me how an egg gets fertilized? My son asked me this yesterday and I have no idea, biologically, how it works. I am still working on understanding all the anatomy differences of a chicken anyway. Maybe someone could point me in the direction of a diagram of the internal organs of a pullet and cockeral also? Thanks.

Fertilization is internal.
