[Hi everyone I am a new member and have very little experience with chickens. Last summer I got 3 silkie chicks and raised them. Not very far into the process my brown silkie go ry neck and we tried to nurse her back to Heath. We tried all the remedies on this site and they didn't seem to work for her and it was so bad that we had no choice then to put her down :(. A few months later my white silkie couldn't walk and refused to eat anything. And she died of starvation we even tried to hand feed her but nothing worked we also tried vitamins and it didn't work. Now this week my other white silkie had what seemed to be ry neck and would not eat only a little every day she died today of starvation even though we hand feed her and made sure she drank. I don't know what I could be doing wrong with these birds . Please help. I love chickens and would love more but I don't want them to die. HELP!!!!!!!

What exactly are the symptoms? What feed are they on? Some birds are more susceptible to wry neck and unfortunately silkies are one, although i have 6 silkies and never have had a case of wry neck. The only thing different is that in Canada my feed contains Vitamin E and Selenium(used in the treatment for wry neck)possibly this might be the reason i have never had a case of wry neck.

If your birds are from the same breeder,i would suspect this is a genetic condition.

Hi, Ten Chicks
I feed them harvest food from purina and I get it at my local feed store. The first and third bird had ry neck and the middle one couldn't walk at all just laid down and all of them refused to eat lost weight and died :(. I'm in canada too. I think it might be a genetic condition because I got two new black silkies from the same breeder and they seem fine. I also got 2 crossed breeds and they seem fine too. But they seem fine in the begging and then their symptoms come and then they die so it could also be vitamins :/
