I had bought some chickens from someone a while back for human consumption... I found that they were trying to get rid of some chickens as dog food.. They are free, but now my friends want the chickens to butcher for themselves . The thing is, she has two different groups of chickens. Some old laying hens with a rooster and some younger birds (banthams). The young birds have had CRD, they haven't been treated for it though.

The old birds haven't exibited any symptoms of it.

Are all, or any of them safe for people food?

If not, I can still feed them to my dogs and ferrets. But I wanted to see first.

Perfectly safe , but they should not be exposed to your own birds . It may not actually be CRD anyway if they recovered easily , but still I would take no chances about contaminating my own birds .

I only have quail. There will be no chance of them getting anything from the chickens because the chickens will be killed at a friends house.

It was my understanding that the chickens got sick and recovered, but have gotten sick again.
