A pecking order cannot work without two big things: Hierarchy and rules. The Hierarchy is the place a chicken is in the pecking order. For hierarchy to work, chickens need rules to use in the pecking order.

There are two basic but essential elements to a successful and long lasting pecking order: Hiarchy and guidelines. Hiarchy is a chicken’s established place in the pecking order, but in order to maintain the hiarchy, chickens need guidlines to dictate their behaviors. ​

Hedwig: We were put in the coop! But now we're inside Grammi's garage for the night-- it was a chance of thunderstorms!
Hazel: But, the precipitation percent chance was only about 45- 30% chance!!! We could've made it even if there was electrostatic discharge.
Pippy: What in the mealworms is electorostatic whatever it is!!??
Omelette: And what in the harry earth is precipitation percent chance???
Hedwig: We are all highly confused by Hazel's technical terms-- this usually happens couple hundred times a day.
Hazel: Electrostatic discharge is also called lightning to the common folk. And the precipitation percent chance is the chance it will rain.
Omelette: Why don't you just say lightning and the chance it will rain???
Hazel: Cause that's the boring terms for them! Just like most human beings call albumen 'egg white.' Gr!! It's albumen! Get it right!!!
Hedwig: So, I guess it's concluded that Pippy does have a crush on Willoughby.
Pippy: *GLARE* Guess. So. HedWIG.
Hedwig: We'll see what Willoughby says!!! =D Pippy will have hearts in her eyes when he comes back!!!

Captain Flint: I think the new lady must not like me. She put me in some sort of solitary confinement cell she calls a "quarantine." It's lonely, and boring. She does come and give me treats sometimes though, so does she like me? It's so confusing.

Terry: Uh-oh, she's broody again. These young pullets, wasting their days sitting in a hot nest box.
Gertie: Living with the flock again has been a bit stressful, especially for the past couple days. I used to be second in the pecking order, but now I've moved down to third. Princess is now above me, grrr. I had to hide in the coop for awhile to avoid pecking from both Princess and Terry. Thankfully, they've been less mean today.
