Hi everyone,
I went out to let my chickens out this morning, and as normal, they were milling around my feet waiting for food. I noticed that one of my faverolle pullets was squatting and walking at the same time. She tried to nudge herself under a rooster, but the rooster walked away. Then an egg popped out onto the ground and she kept milling around as if nothing had happened! This is really bizarre to me. It's a basic instinct of chickens to find a protected place to lay an egg, and they always do, whether it be in the nestbox, in a bush outside, the corner of the coop, or in my brother's truck
. And I'm guessing by the number of eggs I've been finding laying around on the ground that she's not the only one of my hens doing this. It was almost like she was holding it in until she got outside. Is this a faverolle trait? How can I coerce her to lay in the box so I dont have to pick eggs up off the ground?
