BIZARRO Behavior in Hen - should I be worried? (pic)

Thought I'd update with this info. We culled that hen, along with some extra roos, this week. Her liver was NOT the right color at all; instead of dark kidney bean red, it was orangey brown. Her diet was the same as the rest of the flock, and she was a great forager. The liver also seemed kind of mushy. So something there was not right. I wonder if it was related to her stargazing condition.

AmyableSorry about your girl! Just wanted to let you know my nieghbor is an old time farm vet, when we started with chickens he loaned me his poultry books from vet school. It's an old book from 1972 but great info and it doesn't seem much has changed over the years. There is a picture of a chick that looked just like your girl, underneath it shows the bird was suffering from a deficiency of thiamin. (Vitamin B or B1-I think??) But anyway, it says it can bring on nervous disorders in young & old birds causing paralysis of the peripheral nerves. We had some Welsummer chicks over a year ago and right from the start they took a lot more care, we had to put ours on vitamins off/on for the first 2 months, 1 just never thrived and died. The others eventually did fine, I wonder if it is something about the breed or maybe just genetics?
