Yes, it's in the U.S., NM
Hello, I have 6 five or six week old red and black stars. I got them from my local feed store. One seemed like it might be a rooster (I don't think it is, but acts more rooster-like than the others) My question is, can sex-links be wrongly sexed? I didn't think they could but I thought it'd be interesting to know if this chick could possibly be a rooster. Thanks

it would be very, very, very rare for a sexlink to throw the wrong genes. I suspect you just have a pushy hen in the making.

Sex links can not be wrongly sexed, but chicks can be mixed up. Example would be red sex links and I dunno... New Hampshire Red straight run or something. Maybe they just tossed one in the wrong bin?

Actually, I have read on here of sex-link chicks being mixed up. People said they bought reddish chicks that turned out to be roos. Don't know how or why, but... seems that it happens. Do you have a pic of the chick in question?

Last year, my friend bought 20 Cinnamon Queen (AKA "Red Sex-Link") pullet chicks from the local feedstore (and they got them from Cackle). One did become a rooster. It's white w/chocolate shoulders and yellow hackle/tail feathers. I've often wondered, do hatcheries vent sex or color sex their sex-link chicks? Probably a stupid question...
