black australorp x ameracauna

what color would the eggs be? my rooster is a black australorp and the hen is an ameracauna. if the offspring is a pullet,, what color eggs would they be? i am waiting to breed my jersey giants as full blooded birds, and my rirs. but they are only three months old.. so im not getting rid of my banty rooster or my blk australorp...

so i guess ill end up with five roosters.. two jersey giants, one rir, one blk australorp and one banty.



are there any benefits with crossing any of these breeds: my roosters are above and these are my hens.

You are talking about creating mutts, they would of course, depending on the breeding stock, not exhibit many of the problems in line breeding programs have.

Years ago, I had an Americauna rooster and a flock of Australorp hens. I gave a hen to the neighbors and she promptly went broody. They gave me a cockerel as "payment" for the hen . . .

I didn't like him when he grew up and gave him back.

There's something daunting about a big, black rooster with black legs and black eyes, a BIG red comb and a BIG black beard. He was a violent one, too! I named him "Pirate" but usually called him worse. Thought about going after him with a hatchet once but figured one or the other of us would likely end up killed and I couldn't be sure which. I gave him back.

I think the eggs would be dark green if the hen has 2 copies of the blue egg gene, but I could be wrong.

thanks! yall are helpful. im not breeding mutt chickens. the ones i put in the incubator and sell are full blood jersey giants. but the others sometimes will start laying in weird spots and i dont have time to find the eggs.. and then one will go broody and uh oh! and im not one to not let her brood because the chicks are "mutts". mutts lay eggs just as well... i was just concerned because all i have are full blooded ones right now and a blk sex link hen(who is the best layer ever!). i dont mind having extra ones running around. my blk australorp roo is soo beautiful and well mannered i just dont want to get rid of him. thanks
