If it's a cockerel, breeding to all the original hens should give a few more white chicks, and a lot more black ones that carry the gene for white.

So either gender could be used to produce more white ones. (Which option is easier depends on who is doing it, and how many pens of chickens they want!)

Crossing a white female back to her split father is certainly the easiest manner to produce more whites without producing a ton of blacks of which only some will be split to White and you won't know who's split without test breeding.

If you breed a white male to black hens, EVERY black chick they produce will be split to white. No test breeding needing.

I'd prefer a rooster. That first round won't get you as high a % of whites if there's a few hens and only one that carries RW but a rooster can cover a lot of hens and produce a lot of splits that will have you sitting pretty the next go around.

So the original plan was to put my current hens with 1 or 2 of their cockerel offspring. My current rooster will then get 10 new wives, his pullet offspring. So either way should be good

Too young to be sure. Legs make me think cockerel because they are on the thick side. But the comb makes me think pullet.

Hi All

I have a flock of BA's(5 hens 1 rooster). I raised them from 8 weeks old. At no point have they mixed with any other breed. I have hatched 2 successful clutches of chicks. With my second batch of chicks, one chick came out white. I figured the chick will become black once they start feathering. So @ 2 weeks old they have started feathering. Lo and behold the chick is getting white feathers.

So my question as a new chicken owner and aspiring breeder is: How?

I have attached a picture of the parents & the entire clutch, as well as a couple of close ups of the "white chick"
