Black Australorps vs Buff Orpingtons

Just cause you mentioned breeding sex links---none of the breeds you talk about can be crossed for sex links. You need either a red/gold rooster over a silver hen (red sex links) or pretty much any non-barred rooster over a barred hen (black sex links). Here's a link to the best info I've found on breeding your own, gives the crosses needed on the first page, you don't have to wade through the entire massive thread.......

I thought the same thing, but apparently black australorp roosters over white rock hens will produce a sex link chick. White rocks are barred, the color is just diluted in the formation of the white coloring.

Black australorps are one of the best egg laying breeds ever. White rocks are great too. I would really like to see what this produces. There is at least one thread here on the subject. Apparently the little girls are black and the boys are barred.

It will be a worthy experiment. The thought of being able to produce both layer hybrids and meat hybrids and sharing one species of bird in both projects really appeals to me.

The more research that I put into chickens the more that I am really coming to respect all of the things that you can do with them. Had I found chickens first I may have never become a cattleman LOL.

I wasn't thinking of dominant white--that could work. Wouldn't take but one hatch to see if your hens carried hidden barring.
And my favorite part about chickens is that when a breeding doesn't work out, they're still delicious LOL.
