This is Gizmo. She was born March 12 this year. Her parents were both black. They do have barred in their background way back. She has white feathers and then some barring on her foot feathers and some on her leg as well.

Im curious if she will end up being splotchy/random white. What do you all think? I realize that the barring isnt everywhere so wonder if she might molt and come in with more or what.

Not sure how barring works.

Im super curious!

Looks more like mottled to me but I'm no expert on Cochins. I will say things pop up in Blacks or any breed, it just happens. My two cents.

a lot of black chicks have white in there feathers un till there final molt, an example is the black langshans, they keep there white untill final molt, its normal

I know a lot of top black cochin breeders throw white into their lines ever so often to sharpen the black. I don't know if this can throw a chick like this ever so often ?

As fo it "going away" ...I have mottled chicks that hatched like that ...very splotchy then it turns to mottling. I also breed black rosecombs. They hatch with a bit of white sometimes... all the time at the tip of their wings. It even comes back later in life if they've been stressed out... That's why they call them stress feathers.
(chased by a dog will do it, moving to a new home, etc.)

You'll just have to wait and see. How far back is the barring gene? If it's only been a few or even 6 generations, I could see where you'd have crosses popping back up.

The breeder I got them from said that every once in awhile she gets barred chicks. But this one didnt come in barred but has the white, so I was really curious.

She didnt say how far back though.
