I have a friend who has permission to hunt on that property - He was checking out where the bear came in from - and I figure he's just waiting for bear season now.

he baited some coyote back there last year and didn't tell me - so when I heard them going nuts one night - and when I mentioned it to him - how they must have caught something good not too far away - he chuckled - so I said what's so funny - and he said - "oops, that was me"

My mom lives next door and got this pic on her gamecam. She went right to TSC and bought electric wire. She thinks that he must have touched it the next night because the breaker was flipped.

We live next door. So far he hasn't bothered my chickens. Not comfortable doing the hotwire though with kids, cats, dogs, etc...

This is right behind her coop

I think I'm going to get a game cam when I have some extra $$ - I love the pics everyone shares ....

I also agree with the hotwire - I have kids - granted they're older - but I just don't feel comfortable with it. Plus, I don't want to fry the small animals accidentally. But I'd love to see what walks around in the woods behind me.

For sure they can get really big...I've been near cubs and have come across fresh tracks around water holes 5 minutes after I left and went back and that was way too close for me.

Springing from the desert here (pic below), on these mountains not far from Phoenix metro, we have the most dense population of black bears in the state. They wander into towns occasionally and game & fish removes them. I hope your property stays bear-free.

That is a beautiful photo !

My sister lived in the phoenix area for a while quite a few years back now (worked at phoenix hospital) - I remember visiting in it was either august or september - can't quite remember which - and south mtn. was just amazing. We also visited the northern part of the state to see the canyon. Beautiful. One of the things I remember most was the warm air coming from the toilet water (because the water was warmer than the air conditioning) - LOL.

I haven't seen any sign of him/her in the last two nights - so that is good. But my brain just won't let me sleep b/c I keep listening for any sound of panicked chickens. I'm pretty tired today at work !

Between the bear and cleaning out my shed b/c the raccoons that were living in my shed were pooping in there - raccoon poop is smells really bad BTW -

it's been a long weekend

There were two homes built behind me on a 30 acre parcel - (most of that lot was deemed un-buildable b/c of wetlands - which is nice) that backs up to miles and miles and miles of wooded area - when one of the homes was built - they found where the bear had wintered - right where the house was going. I found that interesting as I had known about the bear - but didn't think it was actually living literally right behind me ! By a few hundred yards or so ! Anyway - I assumed it had moved further back into the woods since there hasn't been any signs of it since then - but it's apparantely reminiscing on it's old stomping grounds

LOL, that's so funny about the water!

You got to visit during part of a humid/sticky month, lol. The pic is stock, wish I'd taken it, but thank you...we have some gorgeous country here, no? That's Four Peaks, just east of me. Gotta love snow in the middle of the desert, lol. Glad your bear's not been back so far. Can't blame you for sleeping light, especially knowing that it lived right there where the other house was built!

Wonder if they've had any visits.

Good question - one of the two homes has horses - and the other has chickens (or had, not sure if they still do, she was looking to get rid of them b/c they became egg eaters - due to her own fault of having them housed in an area that was WAAAAY too small). If either of them hear about the bear they're going to freak ! But I bet they'll know by tonight, my son goes to school with their son ... so I have a feeling I'll be hearing from her very soon

I don't mind it - wildlife is wildlife - you just need to learn how to share - but the people with the horses leave their lights on all night b/c she is afraid of wildlife - (moved here from a city area)

: and the other with the chickens moved from a house up the street near the road to a house back in the woods - because she didn't like being so close to the road - and is now complaining about the coyotes and hawks and stuff near her yead and was worried about her taco bell dog (cute dog, but.....). Well duh - she moved into their home - can't blame the coyote for eating your dog when you basically put it on their plate.

Anyway .... yes, the warm toilet water made for some interesting bathroom breaks

and I'm hoping to get my kids out to see that area for vacation in the next few years before they're too "old" to be seen with mom and dad.
