Hey friends I picked up some Black Broilers at Atwood’s in Oklahoma. Tney are from Ideal hatchery. I Am excited to try them. The chicks are super healthy so far with solid poops. They are very cuddly chicks. They are of course slower than CornishX but the are aupposed to breed true and be a good broiler. As a bonus, several people say the hens lay as well as production layer breeds. That sounds like a true dual purpose bird. Its a reasonably fast growing meet bird and or layer. My intent is to raise some more generations.

Below I will post the description of these broilers from the Ideal Poultry site. I had seen on here on an old thread that they were supposed to be a cross between a Dark Cornish and a Black Australorp. Their descrition says otherwise.

“Black Broilers were developed by introducing dominant black genes into the Cornish Rock cross whose plumage is recessively white. Black Broiler chicks are black, with a white chest, wing tips and abdomen. They have single combs and clean, yellow legs and feet with a considerable amount of black. The primary adult plumage color is black, and they are characterized by their large legs and feet and deep bodies. They will grow large if properly fed, however they cannot be expected to grow as quickly or as large as a typical Cornish Rock.”
