Anybody know why I would get BLACK chicks from an Easter Egger/Lavender Orpington cross!?
I know Easter Eggers, especially hatchery EEs, are not exactly reliable or predictable when it comes to genetics, but I was expecting red or at least blue or laced or something because of the parent’s colors but so far both have ended up black??? Except for two little white spots on the wings.
My Leghorn crosses ended up essentially looking exactly like little Leghorns which I had expected because I read WLs are usually dominant white? And that chicks will end up mostly white. Plus I know Lavender is a recessive trait. But I was not expecting black chicks

Not that I care at all, they’re very cute, it’s just fascinating to me.
I have pictures of the chicks and parents that I will post and see what you all think. Maybe they are just very very dark blue???? But they look black to me so
