age 10-11 weeks estimate. I convinced myself its a cockerel but a byc member has cast some doubt so what do you think Arthur or Martha.

It looks like a pullet to me, but those Marans can be tricky.

ETA: that looks like a cuckoo Marans, not a BCM.

It doesn't look like a BCM chick to me. None of mine have been speckled with white. As to sex, it's hard to tell, but I guess male.

I'm leaning towards pullet, but it is not a Black Copper Marans, or even a Cuckoo Marans. Those breeds/varieties don't have crests, which your chick shows.

How did I look at the comb and not see the crest? lol I'd wager that someone was working on Olive Eggers, perhaps using legbar genetics.

thanks for the advice what breed are we looking at? a mix maybe I'd be interested to know. it was with another chick that died I was told one was cockerel but not which, the other chick was not speckled and had copper ends to the feathers. it also didn't have a crest. maybe this can help identify it and also explains why I thought it was a bcm.

That sounds more like a BCM. And I'd wager that this one was bred from Marans as well, possible from a legbar or legbar mix. People like to breed Marans to blue egg laying birds to get birds that lay an olive egg. Cream Legbars lay a blue egg and are crested. Let us know what color eggs she lays.

really no one? there are too many people on this site to make these forums useful !!!
