Hey y’all, I recently adopted this hen and have no idea what her story is. She was abandoned/lost so I have no clue how old she is or what breed. She looks like either a black australorp mix (Cochin mix maybe because of the feathered feet?) or a black copper maran. Note that she doesn’t have yellow feet. Also doesn’t have earmuffs or a beard so I don’t think she’s mixed with an easter egger/ameraucana. I haven’t seen what color eggs she lays yet since we’ve only had her one day so far. Any guesses/insight? Also any way to tell how old she may be?
These are the best photos I have of her so far.
Thanks

I think you’re right. After doing a bit more research I found that French copper marans (unlike English ones) do have feathered feet, so that dismisses my Cochin theory.
Thanks! I’m gonna settle with black copper marans. I’m excited, I’ve never had a marans before!

She fits pretty well for a black copper Marans. They can have varying amounts of copper in the neck area, although usually there is more than yours has.
Good to know, thanks! I’ll have to wait and see if she lays those dark brown eggs.
