I would say pullet right now but still a little early for me to tell for sure. As said watch out for color on wings and back.
When does that tend to come in. This is my odd little creature. I can’t see any copper in the wings or back but clearly feathers are still coming through. Poor wee thing is at a very ugly stage

Comb screams cockerel!

Yes it does however I’ve read that’s least reliable sign because marans have all different kinds of combs. One woman had a female with a bigger comb than the cockerel. So I will just wait and see because nothing else screams cockerel about it.

I think that’s a cockerel. They are the ones that get really ugly at the teenage stage

I believe all Marans have straight combs...and the redness, as well as size, of comb at that age is why I call cockerel. Time will tell.

Yes I've resigned myself and happy to discover we may be able to keep him but others have said the one everyone insisted was a cockerel was a pullet so yup time will tell. It's a bit of a wimp right now!

:lau If ugliness is a sign, then you've convinced me . But he will be beautiful. I'm much happier now I've found out if they're raised together it may work . I have such a soft spot for it, and of course this was then malpositioned saddle cell piped at wrong end rescue mission I did.
