This is one of the pullets we ave separated out getting ready for Ohio National.

Just to remind everyone we breed to APA SOP and no other . In America we have our own Standard and that is what we must go by if we are showing in the APA Sanction shows. The MCCusa spent a lot of time and Money getting the BC Marans approved to show in the APA shows.

Are there significant differences in the SOP?

To promote APA Marans breeding standards of perfection based on the standards set forth by the French Marans Club.

This is straight from the MCCusa website.

There are difference in the two Groups and since I always plan on showing in USA and Maybe Canada someday I go by the American SOP. In America the Marans are, American Marans not French Marans.

I understand your position..... I was just wondering what those differences might be. I know that the imported FBCM look just like ours.

In years past I have went with the French Standard before we had our own Standard. Now that we have our very own Standard that is what we should use as a goal in our breeding program. I do realize that ever so often someone from Australia and say we have to use the French standard , but that just is not correct.

I think we are all here because we love BCMs. I am trying to learn, general statements and personal feelings don't give me answers. I have been trying to study the MCCusa and MOAC pages. I realize you have great knowledge and that is why I posed the question. What changes did you make when you went from breeding to the French Standard to breeding to the American SOP?

Since my BCM may be mixed with blue. They would not work in trying for APA or SOP. Is that correct? Even If they look close to SOP they would be tainted.... and not good......

I would use them in a Blue Copper program but would not breed back to BC Marans that were already established. You could still show the as BC if they look like BC. Look at the lower body soft feathers if they are a brown tint they would be tainted from the Blue.

I changed nothing, but look at the weight chart for Marans. Will send you a private message later today and give you what I know to be fact.
