Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Hey if you all have a minute could you check out page 232 post #2319- we put a few pictures of our 3 week old chicks on and was wondering if our guesses were right

Thanks!

I got my eggs from Pinkchicks (Kim) today. They are quietly resting from their journey & will go into the incubator tomorrow.
I got my Ameraucana chicks from Paul Smith today too but 2 were DOA.....so sorry. They took 2 days to arrive. I am sharing those with a friend. We will each get 9 instead of 10.
I am taking a butchering class in Atwater this week end at CowgirlJules' place & am so looking forward to that. I really will need to be eating some of these extras I will have coming up with all the chicks I have been hatching. I haven't butchered or plucked since I was a teenager with my Vava. I went to the Bass Pro Shop & bought a filet knife & a boning knife while I got a gift certificate for my son's B.D. to go along with the Yokohamas I have been hatching for him.

My boys ( 3 out of the 4 ) are very quiet as long as I am standing with water hose in hand! As soon as I start walking away - - cooooock a ddoooooooodoe

comes out in 4 point harmony! I have the one crazy dummy who just stays wet all day - - he just doesn't get it! THAT is THUNDER!

The next roo is going to be named LIGHTENING - - - as least if it takes after its name sake it will be seen but NOT HEARD !

Seriously Bravo,

If that chicken didn't come with a birth certificate - - -who would know the difference between 5 and 4 months ? ? ?

Animal Control Officer: "Can I see some ID?"

Yeah, I was wondering how they could enforce that. Prohibiting "crowing" roosters would have been more effective but hey, their poor wording gave me a nice loophole. People get dates mixed up all the time.

Luckily, they are pretty good and my neighbors are awesome.

I'm so bad at guessing at this age but I think you are good. The middle one I'm 50:50 on, though.

I'm reevaluating my approach on sexing after seeing Math's photo study of her pullet. Did you see that pink comb at 1 month old?!?

Hens and Roos,

Can you post pictures showing the wattles too? In my limited experience the roo I got had wattles that turned pink waaay before my other two girls. Might not work all the time but it might help you if you are ever in a state of denial

Yeah those were some pink combs, I guess I will see what they look like at 1 month.
