Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Hmmm - I've been wondering about my one lady, too.

She has maybe 2 darker grey feathers, but is otherwise very light, MUCH whiter than my other splash, who is a lovely pewter/silvery grey. Legs are a clear bluey-grey

FEEDBACK time. .. . I have 3 BCM cockerels and would like to decide on ONE OR NONE cockerels. They are 17 weeks old.
They have three different leg band combinations - - -pink and blue, pink and white, and pink, YELLOW, and blue.

First picture is a group picture - -- -
upfront is Pink and Blue, the smallest frame (weight)
middle is Pink and white, the largest in EVERY WAY including comb LOL
BACK is Pink, YELLOW, and blue. the compact one. .. he weighs more and is more compact than the one upfront. .. he is the middle size cockerel.

COLORING - -
UPFRONT does have lighter hackles than the other two
Middle and back are pretty close to each other on hackle and saddle coloring

My own observations are - - -Pink and White is HUGE, very solid. When I started tracking their weights he was one OUNCE BEHIND pink and blue.
I don't know how much they weigh now, BUT Pink and WHITE is MUCH larger than Pink and Blue.

Pink and white has the ugliest comb, he has gray fluffy leg shank feathering and some white feathers that I am waiting to see if they molt out. . .
There is clearly a large white feather in the toe feathering. His coppering is more balanced than Pink and Blue.

That is a nice looking chick. They are called "sports"

I just hatched out 36 pure WJ Black Coppers and there were 3 of those "Sport" whites in the bunch. WJ lines do have withes appear occasionaly. I have two adult hens from BCM parents too.

When you cross them with Black or Blue Copper you can get solid blacks, more whites or more blk/blu copper. From my experience.

Third BCM is Pink, Yellow, and Blue banded. He is stocky and pretty solid. He is NOT as big as Pink and white because he is not as long. . . He is wide like pink and white

What line/s are these from? I have seen those big ol' combs somewhere before. I like the smllest guy myself but once again the tail angle issue. Maybe I am just attracted to it?? I also tend to like the smaller versions. Maybe thats why I am occasionally getting almost bantam sized now. Do you have his mama?
