Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I am totally unfamiliar with this.... How does it work?

You purchase the system which consists of color swatches that have a number on each color. As an example. PMS300 is a blue that is used a lot in printing. you can tell a person in any country that uses this system and most do, that you want something printed in PMS300 and it will be printed in an accurate way to match that standard. It is just a way to accurately talk about color without having to send a sample. There are thousands of color combinations including metallic colors. The PMS system tells you how to mix your colors to match any of the numbered colors. There is nothing like this to compare/match animal colors though.

What is really confusing in the animal world is that often the color names do not match what comes to mind, at least to the average person or newcomer. Also what is called lavender or blue or silver in one breed or type of animal does not necessarily look the same in another breed or type of animal, tho from what I can see, the genetics of the color are usually similar (blue and lavender being dilutes, ect.) I'm having a hard time figuring out some of the different chicken feather colors and it would be helpful to have some photos to show the difference between red, mahogany, red-brown, ect.....

You know what the stupid and goofy thing is? Wait for it....dont laugh....I read this thread yesterday about having a good guide. I just remembered I had a dream about this last night. Of all the goofy things to dream about. I always do that. I will see something, talk to someone and then I dream about it. I guess that this means it will happen

Yup, yup. Even patterns are called somethign different from breed to breed - example, Silver Penciled in Plymouth Rocks is "Dark" in Brahmas. Columbian in Plymouth Rocks is Ermine in Marans.

GUESS WHAT? Pete Ovalle has agreed to videotape a Marans judging demonstration out in California! We have got permission to post this video here on BYC! WOOT WOOT! Details will follow as things are arranged (I'll also post on the Marans thread.)
