Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Hi All!

It's been quite a long time since I've been on but I just wanted to post a few pictures of one of my new BCM boys. I need to get a good profile picture as the one I have makes him look like he has a short back with a high tail set but he doesn't. He still has a few feathers with a bit of white in his shanks but hasn't gone through his final juvenile molt yet I think. He's about 5 month's old. I have a feeling he's going to be a rather large boy and has a brother who's almost identical but who's comb isn't as attractive. I'd love to know what y'all think and will try to get some better pictures.

Hey heather....long time no hear/see etc.... I have a couple of boy finally that I can post pix of.... They are my "do over".... No white fluff and such...Off spring of our collaberative venture... Is this one of yours from that? I like my results...

Thanks for sharing this Wynette!!! Been a while.... I will have to check out your website and see what you have been up to. :)

Hey Janice

It's been sort of hectic round here. Now I'm trying to get everything sorted out for the swap next week. This boy is actually from Zanna's stock. I hatched him out after the last swap. I do have a hopeful contender that's from some of the stock that i hatched for us. It's a boy that is son of the Fitz roo I kept and the hen was from a cross of Andy's girl and Alistar before he was killed. I have another boy from Alistar that is pretty impressive but I'm not sure if I'm going to use him for breeding. I'm not hatching anything else out after the swap. I've got a hen on a small clutch right now but I'm just going to bring those chicks to the swap methinks.

Hi :) I have 2 FBCM pullets that hatched the first week of April. The breeder I got them from said that his birds typically start laying at 7 months, which would be November for my girls. Do you think they will start laying in November, or just skip it and wait until the spring?

Some of this years keepers. The lighting is very dark but than so is this rooster. At 5 months he still has very dark eyes, and more of a mahogany color, but his feet are nicely feathered and his shape looks good, I think. He was very slow to feather, is this a trait to worry about? I am still breeding out the yellow feet and will test mate this guy on some wyndotte hens in the spring. Comments welcome.

Yo, Keara!

How are you???

From what I can see of your male, he looks quite nice. Can we get more pics, from the side, a conformation-type shot, and one from the front, back, top? Would really like to see more of him! Your females looks quite good in my humble opinion! The one in the background in the last pic looks like her type is VERY good!

Hi Wynette!

I need to catch that boy and get him in a cage to take better shots. I will see what else I can get today, but try to get him in a cage this weekend. He has always been standoffish, but honestly that is how I like my roos. I have found if they are too friendly they will attack when older.
I have 4 females in that group, all 4 months old. One is all black which is a first for me. They go from just right foot feathering to a touch of middle toe feather, 2 have dark eyes. Can't wait to see what they lay for eggs?
