ditto this!NopeI wait till day 18 and candle. If the eggs look all black inside with a small aircell, I lockdown. If not, they did not develop.
I'm have a problem with the 1st roosters copper color. I see what looks like 3 different colors. The Feathers that should be copper colored, should all be the same copper tone. All of these birds came from a set of hatching eggs that came with Cottage Hill written on the box.
All of them are 11 weeks old now, i Know it's too early to tell very much but do these two little girls
look good. One has black eyes but the other has lighter eyes.
Please meet Spike, I have two baby Roos in this group to choose from, I like spike the
best but the trouble is that he is very mean already. He was pecking on everyone and
I had to put him on his own so now he is in Jail. I am hoping he grows out of it.
I know it sounds far fetched but after he had been in wiht the hens for 2 days
I came home from work and found one of my big Cochin hens dead...
I dont know if he did it but it is very suspicious.
Here is Spike's brother Twizzler, he is has a very nice personality
but I am not sure about his comb... i think he has a wiggle. It sucks
I'd like to keep both of them but i am getting overrun.
More pics of my two girlies.
As you can see Twizzler is nice to the girls and so he gets to
stay in the pen with all the laying hens.
So there you have it, my four cottage hill birds.
I have another batch that are younger that i bought as chicks, but they are too little
to see much yet. However I don't think they look as nice as these but what do i know?
so do you guys like them?
I have one weird one that i want to ask about but i will put this in another post..
I'm have a problem with the 1st roosters copper color. I see what looks like 3 different colors. The Feathers that should be copper colored, should all be the same copper tone.
At first I liked the pullets, and with color already at 11 weeks, but then I saw the one on the left with mossy looking feathers on the breast. That is a dq. Maybe its dirt? Can't tell.
The color on your 2nd rooster looks more uniform, at least what I can see of it. Can you post a side view?
This pullet or hen in the foreground has a white ear just like the one I have here. My smallest boy looks a lot liked a lot like yours... till this hard cold hit and now he has some frostbite! I can't really see his legs. Feathering?
Quote: Its something you have to think about. I haven't had experience with mossiness so I don't know. I think the general consensus is to cull it out. I've heard some say they wait until it molts. It is a sign, usually, of good copper color in the hens hackles I think. I'm not sure if it also means that you will eventually be overun hens with copper in the breast.
