Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Hi everyone! I hope I'm in the right place. I have a BCM hen I'm crossing with my Blue Splash Marans roo. Will I get some blue chicks?

You will get 50% blue and 50% black.

Thank you! Is that because he's a Blue Splash and not just splash?

Black bred to Splash will produce all Blue. There is only one Splash but some have varying shades in them, generally white base with splashes of blue and or black.

Oops! I red is wrong is he's a splash, and you breed him to a black, you should get 100% blues.
Could you post a pic of him?

That's what I thought you did when you saw Blue and cancelled out the splash

Actually, you will get all blue coppers. Splash & black produce all blues. If you had a blue bred to a black copper, then it would be 50% of each. Its the rule of blues. I don't think it makes a difference if one is a "blue" splash or a regular splash.
